    Waterford

Wexford pulled away well in the end to make it a comfortable victory in Ferrycarrig tonight. With everybody available to Shane Keegan, he went with Graham, Peter, Lasty, Gary, Killian, Eric, Craig Wall, Duxey, Rocks and with Deano and Danny up front. Wexford were the more powerful side round the pitch and started well. After five, Danny had a free but hit it straight at Burns in the Waterford goal. A minute later, Deano was put through a long way out, took a couple of touches and finished well past Burns into the top corner for 1-0. On ten, Danny had a good effort on target, but Burns was able to knock it away. Waterford then picked up a yellow and Deano had a free which was pushed away for a corner. First decent Blues effort came on the half-hour, when a free from outside the box went a couple of feet over. Danny then had a flicked header which Burns had to push away for a corner. With five to go, Blues had another free which went the same two feet over the bar as the previous one. Vinny Sullivan then got a yellow and a good one-two between Danny and Deano which Danny shot over the bar finished the half. Youths well on top but only one goal in front and Graham in the Youth's goal not having to make a save. 1-0 to the Youths at half-time.

Waterford had a good spell in the first 15 or so of the second with Wexford not able to keep hold of the ball. On ten, Duxey picked up a yellow for a tackle. This led to a number of crosses and frees into the Youth's box over a ten minute spell, and from one of these, Graham did really well to finger-tip a glancing header over the bar for a corner. On the hour mark, Coad came on for Sullivan for Waterford. On 67 minutes, Deano made the game safe for the Youths with his second when Eric made a good run into the box and his shot was deflected straight to Deano who stabbed it past Burns from eight yards out for 2-0. Waterford then faded as the Youths took over and, with fifteen to go, Killian prodded one home for 3-0 after a corner by the Youths broke to him inside the Blues penalty area. With four minutes to go, Lasty made it 4-0 when he headed powerfully home at the far post direct from a corner.

Late subs by the Youths were Ben Ryan, Shane Nolan and Adam Cox while ex-Youth Daryl Power came on late for Waterford. Match then finished on 4-0 scoreline for the Youths. Best for Wexford were Deano, Danny and Killian. Waterford played some neat football at times but weren't able to match the pace and strength of the Youths round the pitch. Thought Brian Nolan had a super game for the Blues at an unfamiliar position of sweeper/centre-half. Local band, Corner Boy, warmed up the crowd beforehand and there could have been nearly 550 at the match. 4-0 to the Youths at full-time. Interested spectator was local resident, Paul McGrath.

I've only seen him a few times in Ferrycarrig, but he's often pictured at commercial, sporting and charity events around Wexford. He lives about 25 miles from Ferrycarrig around the area of Ferns village on the NII. Seems to be the nicest bloke you'd ever meet.
