Sorry, there hasn't been a post in here since March. I had to break the silence.

Im a little obsessed with the small stuff right now.
Sky on demand i think is amazing just to have hours and hours of quality TV when you want it. And the broadband that supplies it. It is very easy to complain about slow speeds and all that but when you see how far we have come!!

Just pick up your smartphone, its incredible(unless its an Iphone)

I killed off Sky months and months ago, never looked back. Killed off Netfix not long after when I noticed no-one was watching it. Everything comes from Tinternet now. To be fair though, I'm not much of a sports guy.

Currently using Plex, which is incredible, but I think I'll need to switch back to XBMC and try harder to get it right. The lack of ability to create a playlist or simply play a folder when 90% of the TV watched in my house is short, short kids programmes, can be a nightmare.

Have the X5 - its a great bit of kit. Have an Amiko Alien Triple Tuner running enigma2 in the living room for TV and it steams flawlessly to the x5 via the Dreamdroid app. No wires. As well as you tube, rte player, 4od etc etc.

Did the same - ditched sky, (kept netflix though with a US VPN).
Glad to hear others are struggling with XBMC as well - I find it very difficult to navigate. I'm told that the Raspberry Pi running OPENELEC works very well though. Thats my next purchase - after the world cup is over like, and then some type of NAS which I know nothing about but will be fun learning how.

I'm pretty sure both of those are possible - I know I've hit play to watch an entire season on more than one occasion

edit: I've got this back to front haven't I, but there is an addon for an xbmc front-end and plex server

You did, it's Plex that's lacking in this department. Unfortunately Plex has basically taken command of my N54L, so I need to disengage that before I go back to XBMC. It's a great app, but their development goals seem to have been overshadowed by their financial goals.

    This deserves its own thread.

There some cowboys out there hawking rebranded kit, with modified os. Then offer no kind of after-sales, so you're on your own if anything happens

    yep, sits under my TV.
It runs sickbeard, transmission and I have a 2 TB hard drive plugged into it. You figure out the rest

I run XBMC on an OUYA - https://www.ouya.tv/ - and that does me just fine.

If you're having trouble with XBMC, might I suggest the official app for mobiles, and Yatse for tablets, both make watching using XBMC much simpler.
All goals, yellow and red cards tweeted in real time on mastodon, BlueSky and facebook
