The fans bring super soakers and fire the water on at half time!

Presumably when they play away they benefit from not playing on the worst pitch in the league so their natural footballing ability is able to shine through.

Charlie - you are a master of the understatement. Roddy has already decreed that it is the worst in the world!

The common denominator is that Roddy and Croly both came to Oriel to play hoofball. The surface gives a definite advantage to teams who want to play football (an incisive passing game, so to speak). All the bull$hite about cowardly challenges or garden hoses wont change that

Rule 14.02. The Pitch Watering schedule must be communicated by the home Club at the matchday organisational meeting. The pitch must be watered evenly and not only in certain areas. As a general rule pitch watering must cease 60 minutes before kickoff. However pitch watering may also take place after that time if the referee and both clubs agree, and provided it takes place

    a) Between 10 and 5 minutes before kickoff
    b) During halftime (for a maximum of 5 minutes)
    c) The referee is entitled to request changes to the schedule
That is an extract from UEFA rules for European matches -it has no standing in LOI

I remember a long time ago when Oldham under Joe Royle were doing well over in England they used to play on a plastic pitch. Everyone believed it was an advantage to them, but they also had good players and played an exciting style of soccer and also scored a lot of goals. While I lived closer to much more bigger/fashionable clubs at the time, I did go to watch them a couple of times, passing through Manchester on my way. It was in ways an exciting time to be going to football matches; fanzines had become popular, and the fans also had a short of fashion scene going on with their hairstyles and how they dressed (influenced a lot by the popular music of Manchester at the time) and it was not too expensive to get into games. But anyway teams going to Oriel would be better off being more attacking minded as them the ball will be in Dundalk's half most of the time.
Also reports seem to suggest that Bohs under Heary are playing some dire stuff similar to Fenlon's style of play. This is sad after all the progress and good work done by the club in the last 2 years, as even the most dedicated supporter will find it difficult to keep going to games if negative rubbish is whats being played on the pitch.

Pretty sure Barcelona do it in every game in the Nou Camp. They water the half that they will be playing into to speed up the play. It is called home advantage after all. It's similar to how some teams have the ball boys speeding things up for the home team to give them an advantage.

We should be really thanking Dundalk for that, our players have talked about how that spurred them on hearing Dundalk play we are the champions after winning a game in June.

    What a crock of BS.

The players were motivated by the prospect of winning the clubs first title in a generation, not by the eccentric activities of the PA announcer.

Maybe we can give your players some more 'motivation' next time you visit Oriel

You really are the master of the non-sequitor Wonder, Oldham`s plastic pitch -Brit pop- I hate Bohs, three degrees of separation. That hooped shirt is getting more and more noticeable

There was no whinging. There was pointing out how hilarious it was.

Unless you think playing "we are the champions" after a game when you hadn't won the league in 18 years isn't funny.

This old nugget again. As was said at the time our rather mischievous PA announcer did it to see what reaction if any he would get and he got a good old laugh out of it. He also played the champions league theme as teams ran out on the pitch too which im surprised hasnt been added to the faux outrage espoused by some here. Listen hard to his choice of pre match and ht music as if it isnt defeaning supporters there is chuckle to be had. If he could get something on hosepipes i'd bet there would be a ode to TC tonight too.

Derry were lucky to get a point. Outplayed by Bray for most if game. Bray missed a peno.
