The Sligo fans are irksome. One bad season and you'll go into hiding again.

Thought Strikeforce was a Cork fan?
The ball is round and has many surprises.

I think it's just that a few Sligo fans - as well as at least one Pats fan - are a bit bemused at the sudden sense of humour failure among the Cork lads.

Incidentally, I wasn't in hiding during the last time things were bad. I seem to recall, when we were struggling financially for survival, replying to a Cork City (remember them?) fan on these boards - who was calling us a disgrace to the league - that we'd most likely still be around when they'd gone the way of Alberts, Celtic, Hibs and the rest.
"Even if the wind stops to blow
Even if the sea ceases to flow
Even if the sun ceases to rise
The name of Sligo Rovers will shine and shine forever like the morning star glittering in the sky."

Everybody's fans are irksome - that's the nature of football. When you're successful, attendance go up; when you're not, they go down. Sligo aren't any different to Rovers or Bohs or Cork or anyone in that regard. Even Termonbary Alberts would feel the pinch if their total dominance of Longford/Roscommon border football were to hit a snag. Newcastle United are a hilarious exception.

I try to avoid sniping. So, I have clearly failed myself above. Nobody in this league is perfect, and I'm aware that the record in Cork is abysmal. But that is the fault of a minority. The fans today would maybe have been Celtic, Hibs, even United fans. Most are probably too young to remember or even care, but just glad to have a club to support. When teams get a bit of success their fans seem to get on their high horses online and take pot-shots at everyone else. Our fans were guilty of it after we won the league. I've noticed it too with the Pats fans on here recently. It annoys me.

    A very cranky man.

Cork fans are no different. As Charlie said above when things are going well some people get above themselves. Every league in the world is the same

I agree, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. I'd like to think that I try to keep it balance as much as possible. But being balanced as a fanatical football fan is difficult. I'll give people that.

I think I'm fairly balanced too. But it doesn't mean we can't poke fun at others when the chance arrives.

The only thing that annoys me is when fans are hypocritical (eg defending/ignoring their diving centre forward while saying the opposition player diving should be banned for life). Some of the hysterics are more likely to make me laugh than groan though

Jon Paul McGovern is DCFC's latest signing previously played for Celtic, Sheffield Wed, Swindon, Carlisle and MK Dons.
