Even with the recent cost cutting measures, RTE sport is still a bloated dept.

Not sure what they all do all week but the standards of MNS have dropped in the last 2 seasons.

Would much prefer good quality highlights programme vs increased live coverage.
Yeah man, they call gambling a disease, but it's the only disease where you can win a bunch of money.

For MNS filming at Oriel Park it is always a single RTE cameraman as opposed to a local contractor, and except for live broadcasts there is never a second RTE camera. I presume it is the same at every ground for MNS

Judging by quality I think local companies/ solo operators do Sligo and Derry games. RTE (single camera) do all the others bar the odd big game with 2 cameras

Sligo, Derry (and Harps when applicable) covered by Online Video based in Derry. They also covered Monaghan from time to time in the past.

Just dropping that infernal music would be an immediate and dramatic improvement. It's daft - I've never heard or seen a positive comment about it. I presume it's done by a producer with little interest in the football simply because it's 'what you do' with edited packages.

    No it isn't.

There is one camera at each game. You wouldn't hear alot of the stuff going on during the game so it would seem alot worse.

I don't really get the problem with the music, I never really notice it. I assume it's there to disguise the lack of atmosphere at half the grounds in the country.

Spot on. I honestly can't understand how anyone can have strong feelings on it one way or the other but clearly several do.

I'm not a big fan of the music, but I understand why it's there.
But what annoys me is when its badly edited so the music is too loud and overpowering.

I was reading in the Examiner today that MNS is likely to move to a later slot maybe 11 pm for the coming season. It said they were getting 15000 to 25000 viewers so that is low enough so it's not surprising Rte would want to move it from a primetime slot but it's disappointing for us LOI fans.

An interesting one for the MNS apologists on here; one of the tabloids quoted the 15,000/25,000 figure, but noted that Eircom League Weekly used to pull in 50,000 (past 11 p.m., on TV3). Shocking indictment of the MNS production team.

Anyone else get the feeling neither of those figures are right?

Also, anecdotal but I usually watched it that night or the night after on the RTÉ Player.

I don't think those figures are correct. I know dozens of people who watch it every week yet do not attend loi games. Sure there are 25k watching LOI every as it is, if you consider home crowds every second week, and you can bank on almost all of this figure tuning in every week.

Christ 11pm, wouldn't like that, very eircom lge weekly (tv3), sky plus job.

Wouldn't really bother me if it was at 11. I usually record it and watch it in my own time,I think the only time I actually watch it live is when there is a cup draw.

Wonder if the viewing figures include those if us who sky+ the programme?

@11pm, they used to show Italian football at that time for a while. If they would look at the old Italian football highlights for inspiration they'd have a decent format for MNS.

Record Mick Wallace shouting "golazzzzzzzzzzzzzzo" for the opening credits and you're golden.

I never watch MNS at 7 anyway always a sky+ job for me so wouldn't be overly bothered about it. At least we still have some sort of highlights as poor as they are.

I'd be happy as long as there is a program and its not at ridiculous time but anything between 7pm-11:30pm would be fine by me. Ideally I would prefer just a sample highlights package and none of the talk. But then what are the likes of Pat Dolan & Richie Sadlier going to do? The music is a bit corny but its there for a reason so it doesn't really bother me
