McCarthy has been really impressive all game. In the space of 30 seconds, he played a wonderful volleyed pass to McGeady from which Everton won a corner, and then did brilliantly to dispossess Markovic when he was through on goal from the counter.
Shades of Wolfsburg as McCarthy makes an excellent recovering tackle against Lazar Markovic.

Everton behind to Liverpool.
Delaney & O'Shea, two 33 year old centre backs, the only Irish starters in the six 3:00 kick offs.
Depressing...
Liverpool well on top. Everton leaving an awful lot of space down mcgeadys side too. Both sides in fairness. Martinez can't get the balance right between attack and defence against decent to top opposition.

He's born on the island of Ireland so he's eligible for the Republic of Ireland.
His surname's McNair and he's from Ballyclare. I'd say it's safe assume he doesn't want to.
Well Chaps I am live here at Met Life In East Rutherford,NJ. And Syracuse is holding their own....BUT i belive the fighting Irish will blow out the Cuse......
No Somos muchos pero estamos locos.
Where about are you? I found it on a stream and am watching!
Don't forget to wave is the camera is on you!
The picture is pretty good but I don't really have time to watch plus I do not know much about the game.
In the UK we would not say losing 21-3 is " holding their own", that is more in the realms of "getting thrashed".
Before you have to suffer the ignominy of some GR pedantry, in order to be eligible to play for us by virtue of any held Irish nationality, McNair, of course, first must have been born to a parent entitled to Irish nationality. He'd also have to effect his birthright to Irish nationality by performing an act that only an Irish national is entitled to perform, such as applying for an Irish passport, before being formally recognised as an Irish citizen from birth.
McNair is a surname of Scots Gaelic origin that made its way to Ulster during the Protestant plantation of the province, whilst unionists celebrate the saintly patronage of Patrick too, although James (as opposed to Billy) is indeed culturally ambiguous. Perhaps he's of mixed heritage and Coleman (assuming it's the variant of native Irish origin) is his mother's maiden or family name? Either way, trying to deduce any possible political/national identity or persuasion from his name is fairly pointless and trivial speculation; he's never uttered or signaled any intention whatsoever to switch.
No, but foot.ie loves a bit of pointless speculation.
I naively assumed that even somebody of GR's pedantry level would realise McNair was born before that constitutional amendment was made
On his name being Scots Gaelic... so is McGregor, and I believe somebody of that name was draped in a tricolour in Las Vegas last night. Alan Kernaghan, he of Gaelic Irish nomenclature, was from a northern Protestant background. McNair's name is clearly of Gaelic Irish lineage. You can't really read anything into names in Northern Ireland, beyond beyond people who deliberately choose Irish language names or name their kids "Carson" or "King Billy" or whatever.
I suppose there are subtle masonic like ways to tell differences in ethnicity without having to ask outright and these barely perceptible nuances give glaringly obvious answers to a nordie. But nordies look and sound all the same to me (and me being a southern nordie).
I thought you were a northern Southie?
