    Mervue Home

Going to go for 2-0 us. 1-0 early and get the second by the skin of our teeth at the end despite being under loads of pressure.

Think we'll win without undue stress tbh, just feel we're unlikely to be quite as clueless as last week, have no baggage about Mervue (who are, cup heroics notwithstanding on Monday, crap) and while I could easily see Jof's 2-0 scoreline think we'll have it a bit easier than he does.

400-500 would be my crowd prediction.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

I'd expect a reaction to the awfulness of last week, but only to be facilitated by the poor quality of the opposition. In crowd terms, well, 500 or so? I've managed to convince me father, despite his oath of "never ****ing paying in to see this ****e again" to join me, so that's two at least!

I think the Munster match out the road might hit a few. An excuse to go to the pub instead also if not actually heading to thomond park.

Actually if the crowd is poor I'm going to change my prediction. Limerick 5-1 Mervue.

When he doesnt panic and just picks the obvious team they do the business. Played some very nice stuff at times tonight.

Just the tonic for the other week. Limerick looked a little unsteady for the first half hour but were certainly a step up from the Waterford game. Passing it around a lot more effectively, getting the strings together, being a bit more patient. A bit of long ball, but lots of short passes as well. Mervue were up for it, and threatened a bit, but I was impressed enough by the backline which retained its shape really well.

Sending off was massive though, then the following ten minutes killed the game dead. Too far away to judge on the handball/red card, though overall I thought the ref had a decent night.

Gaffney was great after the red card, what a cross for the second and running the show on the left wing in the second half. Nobody - the Mervue defence and the Limerick midfield/attack -could keep up with his runs. If they had, Limerick could easily have been hitting six or more. Gaffney's goal was a thing of beauty, two wonderful passes, Behan to O'Brien and O'Brien to Gaffney before a cool finish.

Mervue were just engaged in damage control by then, all thoughts on the cup run I assume. Behan's goal was well-deserved, he barely put a pass wrong all game, and it was a thumper when he hit the back of the net, great through ball to him as well.

Midfield was struggling a bit in the first half but Gamble and O'Leary were completely dominant with the extra man. It was cakewalk in the second half, Limerick could afford to be patient and sweep the ball about, especially in the backline. Given the specific situation, I was fine with that, but Pat O'Sullivan certainly wasn't, shouting at Purcell every time he had the ball to get it forward.

As for Mervue, the only player I really have anything to say about was their number 7. He threw an awful strop in the first half when no one was passing him the ball and was certainly guilty of some simulation. Aside from him, Mervue played competently enough for the first half hour, but just did not seem too interested for most of the second half.

I wouldn't judge Limerick too much on this game - the red card and Mervue's lack of interest were telling in their effect - but this should be a confidence booster for the squad and the support. Pressure on Longford to get the result they need tomorrow, and only four games left. A good night out.

Two players highlighted can make things happen with the ball, whereas without them, they are like subbuteo men who have to go with the ball

GOod performance that's the team that should of started last week o Leary makes a huge diff he demands the ball off the backline he is very creative. Scully just needs to relax a little bit start that same 11 in the next game and if possible our remaining games aswell.

Think it was McGrath and think he deserves the credit for that pass.

As for Pat, he is more than entitled to cheer on the team but "stop ghouling around with it and get the ball up the field" was a classic

Thought McGrath looked very comfortable when moved in there. Way more comfortable than out wide. He was always looking for the ball and as soon as he passed it off he was moving into positions to get it back.
