According to the sports guy on Today FM his mum is from Clare and his dad is from Sligo and he grew up in England supporting Sligo Rovers and he mentioned the whole regretting playing for England and not Ireland thing as well.

He isnt ready yet - as he says himself he has to do his time in club football first - and that is far from completed.

He has potential - but we are gonna need someone with a bit more experience to sort out the potential mess Trap could end up leaving us in , if our qualification hopes are over come March 26th

Is he any less experienced than Mick was when he took over? He took over at a similar stage when a huge wedge of experienced players were stepping down and he was challenging for qualification from the outset. You either have it or you don't and by the looks of it McDermott had created a very loyal and tight-knit group of players and was flexible enough to change his tactical approach early in the season when his initial plan wasn't working.

Re: The Mick comment , i cant disagree with you Charlie, but equally taking on such an inexperienced and untested manager is not a route i would like to see the FAI go down again for the national side.

How is he untested though? He's won what is probably in the top 10 leagues in the world. He was handling this season reasonably well too until he was decapitated.

It's not going to matter is it, in two weeks or so, for the rest of this campaign?

More experience would be good, but if it is an Irish manager, surely it's between him and O'Driscoll.
Assuming either want to work with the clowns at the FAI.

Back in football as a scout with Arsenal: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...-brian-4381398

Could be good news for Irish players as he's got a track record of scouting over here.

Ardee Bhoy and I met him at St George's Park in June, supporting the Irish U21s against England in a training match. Nice guy. Was with his long time mate Pat Dolan who was also very affable.

I really liked him as a manager. Always played nice football. Had mixed success but seemed to be intent on doing things in a right way.

His track record is good in that he gained a promotion with Reading and was unlucky to be sacked. The real blot on his copy book was to drink from the poison chalice that is Leeds United.

Hopefully, when the right job comes up he'll re-establish himself as a good manager and will get a crack at the Ireland job.

Reading through that there seems to be a lot of underlying demons for Brian.

I hope it goes well for him. Its nice to see managers with Irish connections doing well. He should have stayed away from the Mad-house that is Leeds mind !
