Ha! So Sion could stay up with a negative points tally. Mad league.
It doesn;t just happen in our wonderful world:

Neuchatel kicked out of Swiss league
BERNE, Jan 18 (Reuters) - Neuchatel Xamax have been stripped of their license and kicked out of the Swiss Super League less than one year after being taken over by Russian businessman Bulat Chagaev.
- Reuters, Wednesday January 18 2012
The Swiss Football League said in a statement on Wednesday that the decision was taken because the club was suspected of falsifying a bank document produced as a financial guarantee last year.
"The Swiss Football League (SFL) has taken away Neuchatel Xamax's license for participating in championships organised by the SFL," said the statement.
Neuchatel have already had eight points deducted for irregularities in the payment of social security contributions and players' wages.
Chagaev, a businessman who hails from the volatile region of Chechnya, bought the club in May saying that he wanted to take Neuchatel in the Champions League.
He has since sacked four coaches and faced a boycott by fans.

Don Givens used to be with them. I'm telling ya, everything that man touches....
Didn't they kick a few teams out of the Swiss League a couple years ago as well? Lots of Leagues around Europe have problems. Look at Scotland at the moment. Remember reading an article on the Finnish League as well in recent months. I'm sure there are others too.
The Greek league is a mess this year as well...
What was the sanction when Shamrock Rovers filed the same accounts two years in a row?

Urziceni were liquidated in July, just two years after winning the Romanian league and consequently playing in the Champions League group stages.
I don't believe there's any league that isn't walloped in some way. The sky leagues are a financial wreck, Spain, Portugal. Saturn went out of business last year (a couple of years ago they were in Europe), FC Moscow the same (when the owner decided it wasn't worth it). Greece is a basket case, Cyprus too, Malta (google Sliema Wanderers Abela), Italy, Holland, Belgium. Football doesn't make money in a normal way, if it did it would make sense.
The League Of Ireland - Striving for all the other leagues to lower their standards since 1922.
I think it was 8. Can't remember the detail of what exactly the punishment was for though. Quite a contrast to being kicked out of the league completely in any case.

Think there was (rightly) strong effort made to keep them in the League. Procedurally licence should have been withdrawn forcing them out but think a dollop of fudge was served up . To be fair it was the season they were relegated so the 8 point deduction was painfull to the club. It was also "early days" for licencing so I suspect a bit more latitude was allowed than would be granted in similar circumstances today
You don't seriously think the fai would ever continuance throwing out rovers ,cork ,Derry or the real rovers they would at best slap there wrist, for the middle clubs like Dundalk and pats it would be a severe spanking while the rest of us would be rogered severely.
I wish i did not know then what I dont know now
Some would be whipped to an inch of their miserable lives while others will be given a note to take home to their parents

I have a feeling this can sell for the RTE. Podge and Rodge can compere, GAA "luminaries" can commentate and guest "rogereds" can be brought in from the world of Irish (non-LOI) football - Dunphy, Giles, Cunningham etc. And I am certain that Kathryn Thomas and Grainne Seoige will be involved somehow.
