Most likely explanation is the obvious - he's a young lad, who's not very big, in his third premier league game who has developed an early reputation for running rings around defences who give him a bit of space and time on the ball. The Hull players decided not to give him that time and space and to "let him know early".

Couple of interesting quotes from RTE:
    Shay Given on Grealish:

"Ideally, we would like him straight away because I feel he is good enough to play straight away, because he is a really talented player. Hopefully we can keep him in the green jersey."

    David Meyler on Grealish:

"But you know he's another bright talent and he's Irish, and these are the ones we have to watch for the future."
I think in sales that's called "assuming the close"

The supposed emotional cushion benefit of the 'expecting the worst' belief, is a total fallacy.

Something refreshingly confident and innocent about him pointing out that it's live on TV. "I'm going to be on the telly" kind of thing.

That is one of the worst posts you have even made, I have been expecting it for some time hence I am not too disappointed.

    It's "off" not "of"

However if it is on Eurosport it should be on a stream so thanks to Jack for pointing that out.

Just because Ireland disappoint on a regular basis does not mean that those who expect the worst are somehow immune to the grief of those defeats, in fact it's beyond a scientific certainty that those people who expect the worst in any scenario have their gloomy feelings exacerbated when the worst does come to pass. That's one reason why you are a full time merchant of gloom

If the worst is going to happen shin pads won't be of much use, they might make the bottom half of your leg easier to find I suppose.

"Young Grealish has a decision to make and I can understand it.

"Most of the lads I know who were raised in England want to play for England, it's just natural for them. There are greater rewards and greater exposure playing for England than there is for us and that's just the honest situation," said Giles.

Also far more competition!! Only a had full will have a long career, a tiny few. Playing for nobody has no rewards
plus England are going down hill, they will likely never qualify for anything ever again, we will cos our players play for pride.

I think that the approach the FAI are taking to the recruitment of Grealish is spot on. Whilst I'd love to see him capped & tied to us I think that the rush to do so may well alienate or spook him a little, given its a big step and as a lad of 18 a decision that could ultimately impact on the next 15-20 years of his life.

In keeping him with the 21's they're leaving him with familiar faces and even more that that guys who are in the exact same boat as him and on course to make the exact same commitment as him. Watkins-Clark & Garmston are both young guys from similar backgrounds (West Midlands born & Irish backgrounds) and I'm sure he probably feels some comfort in having those guys around. I'd actually go as far as to suggest that if and when he is called up to the senior squad that one of these guys be called up too to help ease his path into the senior squad.

I know it seems like molly coddling and hand holding but the kind of footballer we're dealing with nowadays is different to the guys we compare them to (Aldridge, Houghton, Townsend....etc).

Could the answer to the Jack Grealish decision have been sitting under our nose this whole time?

His Twitter tag has only two lines: "Always have faith ! My family mean everything to me"

You mean your IRISH family, Jack?

Of course, the fact that I've pointed this out will mean that he'll now declare for Bulgaria, but I'm expecting the worst, so I'll be chuffed to bits either way.

"Ahha you better be . Nah I joke too. Gary how often you down bodymoore? You work there? And I never knew you could get year early than everyone else. Hmm... And we do not know yet my grandad defo wants ireland and we wouldnt mind him becoming an irish legend haha. But nah idk. If wants to play for england and if given the chance it defo looks like england is the one. And yeah guys ill keep you informed if gary dont lmao."

Wouldn't be so sure about dad or brother (or Jack) but his Granddad wants Ireland according to this, which would make some sense as he is/was Irish.
