Apologies for taking the thread off-topic, but he starts for Villa in the league cup, as does Given. The doc's mate is on the bench.

Jack Grealish certainly looks a prospect for #avfc. Been the brightest spark here by a country mile....

Wasn't enough to keep them in it, Villa going down to an 88th minute goal.

Well he may have looked good ( I have not seen it yet but have some recorded
highlights to watch) but Villa still lost 0-1.

Interesting too that man U lost 4-0 to MK Dons with a M Keane in the team,
a player we 'lost' to England, doesn't seem that much of a loss does it?

I just had a look therough Roy Keanes career and could not find a 4 gaol defeat up to 2000.

That's a pity - it would have been good for Lambert to have the option of playing him in a couple of extra League Cup games over the autumn, should he still be unsure about giving him serious playing time in the Premier League - still, good to see him play the full 90 with some positive feedback on his performance. Also good that Martin O'Neill has obviously taken the time to indicate that he could well be close(-ish) to becoming an option for the National Team and then giving him the space to consider whether he's ready to commit at this point. I know that we still need to wait a bit to see if he is the real deal - some have said here that he could end up like Ritchie Partridge, Darren Potter or Sean Thornton (who all incidentally had perfectly respectable careers). But he could also be like James McCarthy, taking a little bit more time to establish himself fully as a top player (but eventually doing so)...or he could be this season's Ross Barkley. My gut instinct (and admittedly this is based mainly on viewing Youtube videos and reading about the general buzz surrounding him) is that it will be one of the latter two options and if it's the last one, we should be ready for him to play a part in this qualifying campaign, again assuming he's ready to make his final decision.

Darren Potter was super last night for MK Dons, by the way.

In fairness, I don't think Paul McGrath or Franco Baresi would have compensated for that Jonny Evans performance!

Got a compo off one of my Villa mates so went along to Villa Park last night.

Villa were poor, how Baker is starting ahead of my mate Clarky I don't know.

Shay made a great save to keep Villa in it, but they had so much space to score, he could do little to stop it.

As for young Jack, looks good on the ball, beats players but what I did notice was that he uses the same two tricks to turn or beat a player.

Better defenders will work that out, he also bottled a couple of 50-50s and gave the ball away lots sometimes without being under pressure.

But to be fair, he's young and these are the type of games he needs to develop.

Could Shay have come to take the cross that led to the winner?

I think what you have to do is adapt when player work you out, ie you know
they are expecting a certain trick, so use that to your advantage. So they will be expecting you
to go right so feint right and go left!! Simples
As for bottling 50/50's sometimes that is not a bad idea, a broken leg won't do you much good.

Fair point, but that's if you can adapt. As for backing out of a 50-50, your more likely to get hurt leaving a leg trailing out, as your not prepared for the impact.

If you are inherently a good player you should be able to adapt and stay one step ahead, I think Jack has a few more tricks
if needed and he has the balance, which is the key thing, I have seen him leave quite few players on their backsides,
but obviously they higher up he goes he is going to meet a better class of defender. Judging when to tackle and when
not to is another thing that sets players apart.

Doc seriously you need to get your agent sorted out if he can't at least get you a contract with a decent Championship club. You need to remind him that the likes of Paul McShane is getting regular games in the Premiership.

Who's your agent anyway? Nicolas Anelka's brothers? Anthony Stokes' dad? Trigger from only Fools and Horses?
