what kind of crowd will Sligo be expecting for the UCD game? Theres a chance City finish with the third highest attendance in the country if they don't get an above average crowd
we would need Derry to have almost nobody at their game to overtake them though!

It's been said before, but for Shels being where they are, that attendance figure is absolutely embarrassing.
I would expect about 2500.
Maybe if more than 5 away fans turned up for most of our games it would have been a bit higher!! Also we have absolutely no local derbies and are competing with teams in the same city. We have brought good support to our away games (I would venture to say as good as if not better than Cork for most of our away games).
you are aware that every away ground bar Limerick and Waterford - maybe Wexford - is closer to you than us.
once you've seen all the holes in this division there isnt much interest in going back again. still we'll bring a solid number tomorrow
weve had reasonable crowds at most away games over the last two years. we brought about 150 or so to salthill a couple of weeks ago in the rain
its not like shels know what our away crowds are for games against any teams other than them
852 for Galway United is the stand-out figure - higher than two other Premier teams and all in the First Division bar Cork City.
Incredibly loyal support for what is probably the worst team in the top flight since Bray Unknowns !
The most impressive one for me is Finn harps, They have the 5th highest average attendance in the First Division upto this weekend, The have feck all to play for all year and they still manage to get crowds of over 500 for games against Mervue and the likes somtimes, Afetr a few years in the Firt Division doing absolutley nothing I doubt there is many teams in the country they could do that
Here on a technicality.
......this....
..what he said.
You're sitting top of the league running away with it most of the season, in one of the closest title run-ins in years and playing good football, and your average attendance is 781. You're only 2 and a half hours from Galway, 2 from Cork, and hour and a half from Longford, Athlone, Wexford, Waterford and Monaghan. Your furthest journeys are Finn Harps and Limerick.
All of Harps games (aside from Monaghan) are more than 3 hours away. Yet every game there is at least 20 fans travelling away.
If we were sitting where you are now, I'd be shocked if we were getting any less than 1,500-2,000 every game.
Credit to Cork your support has been excellent, 3,500 the other night - excellent.
Shels have never had a big support and a lot deserted us once we got demoted. Going off memory here but big games we used to get quite decent crowds but the longer we remained in that division even the big games failed to attract a crowd. I'm a bit fearful that we might not get much more in the Premier if we're a mid-table team but nothing to play for.
That said the Dublin teams seem to like the trip to Tolka and will boost our numbers.
We take a healthy away support pretty much everywhere we go in the first division and have done ever since we got demoted. Our home attendance is nothing special but it's certainly not embarrassing. This is the first division after all and we've had 5 years of it. People tend not to take very much interest regardless of how we do in this division. Especially when there's 3 premier division clubs in the same county to keep them occupied.
When you consider Harps position in the table, the lack of any away fans for half the teams the play, and the fact that there are based in a town with a relatively small population, it is a very impressive figure.
Our average attendances are boosted by the fact that we sold 600 season tickets at €99 earlier in the year, an element of cheating there !
