He looks well out of his depth in the premiership never mind international level. Absolute disgrace Stokes is not in the squad and Walters is. Here is a link to a thread on Stoke City's fans forum discussing the topic "Can Walters still come good?"

"I'd prefer Julie Walters. She could run around like a clueless t** too, and have no bearing on a game," is one of the kinder comments

I really rate Walters. He works so hard, is great in the air, has decent pace, and can hold up the ball. His touch and finishing aren't too bad either. He was the best player on the pitch when I was in the Britannia last Saturday seeing Stoke hammer Newcastle 4-0 ( ).

I tend to ignore most things written on the oatcake forum. It's full of moany prats who constantly confuse Stoke-on-Trent and Barcelona. We could win the league, and there would still be people on the oatcake the next morning calling for Tony Pulis' head.

Gilesy missed the birth of at least one of his kids to play football. Walters won't be missed though.

I sincerely hope you're right. He's a big loss for me as I can see us having to resort to the long ball game at some stage. What big man do we have? O'Dea, maybe he could go forward?

Send Dunne up front. He'd power through the defence.

Great goal for Walters against Chelsea today - turned David Luiz on the halfway line and then carried the ball forward into the penalty area himself and scored with a right-foot shot.

stunning goal from Walters. Nicked in ahead of Luiz and charged unstoppably into the left hand side of the penalty area, cut inside another defender and lashed it past Cech. Some goal. Quality. Didnt know he had it in him to be honest.

this is probably our greatest period when we have had so many decent quality strikers. Wingers too I suppse. Whoever thinks we haven't a strong squad and only have ordinary players is most certainly wrong.

Probably the best game I have seen him play. Impressed with Wilson as well.

really did wilson play well in the DM role, did they line up with a 3-5-2?

Pity Wilson had to pull out of the game on Tuesday, wouldve been nice to see him in the DM role. How did Whelan do yday? Good to see he has won his place back in the XI.

Whelan's been back in the starting line-up for a few weeks now - he's been playing well. Had some neat touches from the highlights package I saw, and they matched Chelsea in terms of creating chances, so between them they did well. Wilson also drove a cracking free kick off the bar. I didn't know he was the type.

I saw Stephen Elliott score a great goal for Hearts yesterday, against Hibs. It's funny, but afaik Elliott & Jon Walters partnered each other for the U21s for a few games before Elliott was taken into the senior side. Elliott went on to have a fantastic season in the Championship and showed real promise in the EPL before injuries stunted his development, and I think there was talk of lack of application too. He went backwards at a rate of knots and is now doing well at Hearts, a level way below where he could have expected to be a few years ago.

Walters, on the other hand, started off at a higher level before dropping down the ranks, avoided any real international scrutiny, consolidated at Ipswich and did sufficiently well to attract Pulis' attention. He's now in the form of his life and whilst not exactly one of the stars of the EPL I think he has settled at that level and is a tough opponent. Walters is now in the Irish senior squad whilst Elliott has probably shot his bolt at that level.
