Currently immersing the 'ol brain box with this recently acquired lot:

Postcards - Manics (I love this album!!. Miles better than I thought it would be. Strings, big chorus, guitar solo's - their most upbeat sounding album since Everything Must Go.

Collapse into Now - R.E.M - The Vaccines album currently begs the question - "What do you expect from the Vaccines??". I think the same question could be currently asked of some reviewers of R.E.M's latest album!!! It sounds pretty good to me anyway - what more do they want??? If past glories are cast aside and the album is reviwed on its on mertits its a very strong effort IMO.

Band on the Run - Wings - Under pressure, MacCartney delivers his first set of songs to finally get remotely near his Beatles output. Recorded in close proximity to a leper colony in Nigeria amid a health scare and being held at gun point. Never matched this albums consistency again.

On the Beach - Neil Young. Part of the infamous "Ditch" trilogy. Only arrived yesterday. Looking forward to hearing this one.

Tonights the night - Neil Young Same as above.

I Feel Fine - Best of the IRS Years - R.E.M - Unrelenting 1980's brilliance from R.E.M compiled.

If you beg to differ or heartily agree, please do!!!!!

The new Horrors 'Skying' album is wonderful, nice change of direction. Also loving Wild Beasts 'Smother' right now.

Just back from the Kilkenny Arts festival, absolutely fantastic event and puts most events in the country to shame. If anyone hears anything about a young band called Sive do look them up. From Kildare. Superb superb act.

'Directed by Jesus' apparently. Big payout for anyone who put a few quid on the second coming involving Dublin, rap and the archenemy of superman.

Do you ever discover something and wonder how the hell it passed you by.

Have just discovered Health's remix of Pictureplane's Goth Star from his album Dark Rift and I am in awe of it's beauty. An incredible piece of music that has me tingling all over. Beautiful.

But what has me thinking about is Pictureplane is a non-entity in my life despite being a massive Health and Crystal Castles' fan.

Whilst delving deeper into Pictureplane I discovered his album "Thee Physical" from earlier this year... what's bugging me is that I had these 2 words in my phone for years since about 2007, after I was listening to a song in a mates house and was looking over at his iTunes and trying to figure it out whilst ****ed and I put that into my phone.
I had been listening to it turns out was Control Freaq by Felix da Housecat from the album Kittenz and Thee Glitz.

    Bizarre to say the least.

Just something I noticed a while back; the melody in Goodbye by Ulrich Schnauss that kicks in at 4:50 bears a striking resemblance to that at the beginning of the Pogues' Hell's Ditch. I don't know of the Pogues having been an influence though.

Is he from Dublin? Not giving anything away with an accent that's maybe more MF Doom-influenced than anything else. As far as Irish hip-hop is concerned, I've always enjoyed Messiah J and the Expert. Can't actually find my favourite track, I'd Give My Right Arm, online anywhere but this one's pretty good:

There was a group, the Sirocco MCs, from Derry that did some nice stuff back in the day although they're not making anything any longer; "not into that sh*t anymore", according to Emceeodee at a Vitalic gig in the Nerve Centre. Era2 did some good stuff as well, but dunno if he's around any longer either. Just left with brash bombastry on the Derry scene from the likes of Wile Man now.

Metallica and Lou Reed album out end of October entitled 'Lulu'. Strange strange project with an even stranger album sleeve.

That's excellent. Hadn't heard it before. But within a milisecond of hearing it, I recognised the sample. So Stevie Nicks deserves a lot of the credit!

It's not the most hidden of samples that! Actually went non a Fleetwood Mac rampage afterwards.

Stevie Nick's voice needs to be bottled for all eternity.

Stevie's solo work away from Fleetwood Mac is underrated imo.

You're not wrong there my friend. Not wrong at all. She has some incredibly sample-able (sic) songs that I never listened to before in that vein.

    Don't mind if I do...

EDIT: The discovery of that Health song has developed an unhealthy obsession with Ms Nicks. Is the age gap too much?

cheers for the heads up. I'll bear it in mind and add her to me list of Free passes which includes: Zooey, Winslet and Perry.

I'm off to town now to hit Tower Records upside the head. Boom!
