What a load of bullcrap.I could imagine the reaction in Sligo if an extra team from sligo would be promoted to the loi. Galway can barely support one club never mind 3.

My point was, your population is over four times the size of Sligo, so it is possible for the Galwegians to have three clubs as big as Sligo Rovers

but sligo is a football town. Galway is a city where united have to compete with Gealic football and hurling ( the 2 biggest supported sports) and then connaught rubgy (which is played at the same time and night) on top of that.

Why don't either GUFC or the rugby switch to a Saturday night?

It has been talked about over and over but nobody will stand down. We even send the connaught fixtures to the fai before they announce our seasons fixture list but they ignore our requests also !

In fairness though, did Mervue being in the league last year really hurt GUFC in any way? I can't really see how it did.

Sponsorship or young players maybe. I can't imagine Galway's crowds were impacted but the problems with their under-20 team must have been at least partly due to some playing for Mervue.

Maybe, but Mervue didn't seem to have any great sponsorship to speak of and the GUFC U20 set-up was a bit of a disaster independently of them.

They must have had some, they weren't paying the bills on gate receipts.

I don't doubt it but the extra competition for players can't have helped.
