    Joe Miller leaves Dundalk

Joe Miller has left Dundalk, after being unable to get certain reassurances from the board about next season.

In the light of the recent voluntary staff wage cuts and the obvious uncertainties for next seasons budget, Miller was eager to get clarification and assurances regarding the clubs plans for next season.

The fact that Miller was instrumental in attracting recent new signings from Scotland, who were subseuqently asked to take pay cuts was obviously difficult for him, and the club were unable to provide him with sufficient guarantees regarding next years squads. It is expected that a number of these signings will be released in the close season.

Dundalk Democrate interview in this weeks edition, which was prior to last nights resignation:

Dundalk head coach Joe Miller admitted that it was time for the board of Dundalk FC to spell out their plans for next year, in order to keep the current squad together.
Miller was understandably downbeat after watching his side dismantled by Derry City on Friday night and admitted that the morale of the players had dropped following the board's decision to implement a pay cut.

"I am disappointed in bringing players over here, because you are trying to sell the club to them and they come over here and then it is not made easy, so in one way I am disappointed in the way it has not worked the way some of them had hoped. It is disappointing."

When asked about his future, Miller said he would like to stay if the board sets out their plans. "They have to get everyone around the table here and discuss what the club wants.

"There is no sense in pulling the wool over peoples' eyes. Everyone should sit down at the table, throw the cards down and say here it is.

"Everyone has to pull together, get a business plan put in place and keep this group together. We have to get people working together, get people banging on doors and get money into the club. The board has to realise this is what you got to do to survive.

"They and the fans may not have thought this group of players could achieve so much. They are playing attractive football at times and we have had some highs and lows, but we could build on this if we keep the group and try and challenge next year."

    Irish Independent article today confirms

    Miller quits Dundalk

A SEASON that promised so much for Dundalk FC continued to descend into disaster yesterday when assistant manager Joe Miller resigned following a dispute over recent pay-cuts.

The former Celtic player, who was on a rolling week-to-week contract, is understood to be dismayed by developments at Oriel Park, which saw the players -- some of whom had only just joined the club -- agree to a 10-15pc reduction in wages.

Many of the recently-signed players, including star striker Alex Williams, had transferred from Scotland on the recommendation of Miller and some of them are now expected to follow in his footsteps by leaving the club.

"One or two players will probably go back (to Scotland) at the end of the season because of the pay-cuts," confirmed manager Sean Connor.

"Joe was disappointed with the pay-cuts and he needed assurances for next season.

"But, like any other club, we can't make those assurances right now," he continued.

"He was disappointed the players he had brought over had to take pay-cuts and I'm disappointed to see him go because Joe had done very good work."

The resignation of Miller, who was unavailable for comment, is the latest worrying development for the Oriel Park faithful in recent weeks.

The club had to pay out a five-figure settlement to former player Dave Rogers after dismissing him for dropping his shorts.

Presumably, in case a (more financially sound) Scottish or English club came looking for him, which I believe may be the case. Pretty shambolic goings on at Oriel, all the same, I'll have my hands over my eyes for the remainder of the season.

Should shaft Connor out when the season ends and put Miller in as manager if they had any sense.

If they had any sense they wouldn't have signed players when just a few weeks later they had to cut their pay.

Sad loss for Dundalk...seemed to be doing a great job,but at least the board are not gonna make same mistake next season by the sounds of things.

By far the club and financial security are more important than anyone going into next season

It seems that all might not be exactly as it appears!

Apparently news of Joe Millers departure was initially carried on LMFM radio news reports on Wednesday evening, and appeared in the Irish Independent Thursday morning, with quotes attributed to Sean Connor.

It is interesting to note that no statement has been forthcoming so far from either Joe Miller or Dundalk FC.

While there is undoubtedly no smoke without fire, and Friday mornings media reports might give greater clarity, I hear that it is far from certain that Joe Miller will not be in the dugout in Oriel Park on Saturday night.

Nothing is confirmed until the club confirms it or the man himself which hasnt happened yet. I wouldnt be overly amazed to see Joe doing the pre match warm ups on Saturday night the way things are going but I wouldnt put it past our board to have messed yet another thing up and are too ashamed to own up just liek the whole O'Callaghan debacle and "Rogers gate"!

Maybe Joe finally seen what a spoofer Mr Connor really is and is trying for the main job himself for next season. Mr Connor retaliates with a premptive announcement of Mr Miller's departure from the club.

It was LMFM that announced his departure not Connor

From what i know Connor was told by one of his squad that Miller was saying he(Connor) hadn't a clue! Wouldn't be surprised if Miller will be manager next year.

No, he was not in the dugout - Joe Miller was in Scotland earlier in the week and returned to meet with the board on Saturday prior to the match. Apparently meeting was inconclusive and a further meeting was scheduled for yesterday or today.

The Irish Indo report of last week was inaccurate (as was my OP) both about resignation and the given reasons of disatisfaction with recent pay cuts. It is still likely that Joe Miller will depart, and a statement from the club and/or Joe is expected by tomorrow.

Statement from Dundalk FC about Joe Millers departure from the club:
    http://dundalkfc.com/news/090918_Miller.asp

Apparently it was mis-reported in Irish Indo last week that Joe Miller had quit as a result of recent paycuts. It seems that his departure actually only took place yesterday. The reference to "review of the relationships and roles within the team management" is understood to be a reference to a breakdown in the working relationship between Joe Miller and Sean Connor - of which there was only ever going to be one outcome.
