    O'Shea.

O'Shea has been poor some matches this season. It could be that he was just saving himself etc but he is such a lazy player.Doesnt track back, doesnt tackle and pulls out of tackles and wont jump for a ball either.ALL of those traits mean he will not make it in the P.L IMO.That said if he starts doing all of those now that he is in the P.L then he could be some player.I remember watching the likes of Long and Hunt for Waterford Utd and being very surprised they moved over and made it but now i can see they do have class.O'Shea COULD be the same.Best of luck to him.

I like O'Shea, skillful and not afraid to have a go, but I think Birmingham will struggle this season and he will find it hard to get a game. I wish him the best of luck.

I would have to agree with several of the posters here who feel O'Shea will struggle to make an impact in the English Premiership. I have only watched him in the flesh at Finn Park a few times and, certainly in Galway's most recent visit in the Cup, I thought their left winger (Derek O'Brien?) was much more impressive before being forced off with injury after only half an hour.

Nevertheless I hope I'm proved wrong. What sort of money are Galway picking up for this? Is there any form of sell on clause in the deal?

I don't know much about him aside from watching a couple of games for the U'21s but if that is the case then a season on loan in the Eng Champ may do him the world of good as if he can flourish in that league then he perhaps has a chance.

Let's not get excited just yet. Does anyone remember Roy O'Donovan? Only got one goal in the SPL and didn't set Blackpool fans hearts racing. Didn't even score!

O'Shea's is a good player with a bright future but to say Duff and McGeady's places are under threat is jumping the gun.

He has to do better than Dicker and Kavanagh before we even compare him to O'Donovan. Best of luck to him though.

I know nothing of Jay O'shea. But for those that feel he didn't set the world on fire in LOI I always feel there's a kind of player that I can only identify in hindsight but those with a keener eye for the game such as a scout might spot. It's the player that performs to a certain standard at a particular level in Football, but has the ability to carry that exact standard of performance to a higher level. This is opposed to the person who excels at a lower level but who's ability is constrained the further they go up.

Hopefully that is the case here...
I pity the fool!.... But suggest ways that he might improve himself.

He has some of the things that are needed to be a good player, he is quick and very good on the ball. I wasnt that impressed with his attitude in some of the matches I saw him with Galway United this season though, as it looked like he thought he was too good to be here. He probably knew a move was on so was saving himself, so he should be in the right frame of mind to make it at an English club.
To be honest I would rate his chances of being a permanent fixture in the Ireland squad at about 80/20 against, it will depend on the coaching and experience he gets, he could do with being loaned out to the championship or league one club this season.

Only thing I'd add to that is "such as a good scout might spot".

Sometimes I wonder how some scouts earn a living.

There is no other pundit that knows so little about football, its beyond me how anyone employed him in any capacity at a football club
Footballs a simple game, they cant score if you have the ball

    Was he full-time at Galway?

I think if he was, then that step up could be what made him shine. To be fair, he did show some good stuff for us but he was only ever a sub at best. He wasn't holding down a first team place and there were other players around his age (Gary McCabe) who impressed more than he did.

I like Jayo, and hope he makes it across the water

Heard that Galway got 80,000 for him, I think (if thats true) thats shocking, Birmingham surely could have been strung along to pay up a bit more?

Well, there's a difference between what Birmingham piad and what Galway got as money from the transfer would also go to us, his other previous clubs and agents, no doubt.

Besides, Galway aren't in the best shape financially and I'm sure they would be happy just to take what they can get.

It makes sense for Birmingham to pay however much they did. If they knew they could have him for, hypothetically, €100k, then why would they pay more? They have no obligation to.

Most of those comments could apply to Ronaldo too. Didn't really hold him back. I do not think that Jay O'Shea will be the next Ronaldo.

The above is all pretty much nail on head. That said when Kevin Doyle went over I'm not sure many were predicting he'd do as well as he has.

I had a feeling when I heard "agreed a fee" and there was very little talk on here or in the papers about the amount, that it was most likely less than 6 figures.Terrible
