true, we all know it, but lets never stop saying it. If football here is ever to do well (not holding breath) it will need people to understand that there is more to the game than SKY sports hype. Hoops fans on this forum gloating that this meaningless friendly was more important than Bohs Champions Lge qualifier is typical of the bar stool views we hear every week.
Never going to happen but would'nt it have been nice if Hoops had withdrawn from the friendly over the decision not to allow the League game to go ahead in Tallaght ? Or if, God forbid, the FAI had done thier job and made permission for the friendly conditional on League game proceeding ? Then again Delaney et al will probobly decamp to Tallaght for this evening anyway (good photo oppurtunity).
Why in the name of jaysus should they have withdrawn from the friendly?
Lads lets be honest, the LOI is a small time, and mostly sh*te league (Football standard wise). The reason we all go to the games is because we're not all completely taken by the Sky Sports hype.
The more clubs of the stature of Real Madrid that decide to spend a week or more of their pre-season in Ireland and play a game against a LOI team then the better.
And if clubs are clever enough they could use the situation to their advantage.

Tonights game will have done nothing but good for Rovers, it also showed the EL off in a very postitive light, and will hopefully further increase the attendances in tallaght.
The ground looked great, the athmosphere came across great on the telly and a massive worldwide audience can only be good for the image of the EL.
Congratulations to all involved in Rovers.
Also it was great to see the crowd completely behind Rovers, unlike when the likes of Celtic & Utd play in Ireland and the crowd is supporting a foriegn team.

Completely agree with this, I live in Cape Town and the game was broadcast live here on the equivalent to Sky, I was out at the weekend and I was asked about Shamrock Rovers by a local yokel who was interested in what type of team they were, standard of players, and Ireland players, etc...
