Galling defeat for us. Fingal simply weren't interested. We gifted them their goal, passing straight to their only decent player (Conan Byrne) 20 yards out with no-one near him. Horrific error. In the second half, we hit the bar and had two off the line. McFaul should have walked in the first for what seemed a professional foul followed by (which I missed) a deliberate handball as well. You'd have to imagine that, over the course of a season, those performances will cost FIngal too many points to win the title, possibly even a play off spot.

Have been saying for a while that missed chances will cost us silly points. This was an easy win if we wanted it; instead, we're now three games without a goal, and possibly three points adrift come Saturday. Suddenly Monaghan away next week looks decidedly tricky.

    Alan Kelly.

Yes Derry were the better team tonight but at 1-0 and we had a chance and then he goes and gives a DISGRACFULL penatly decison and costs us the game.HES A BRUTAL REF.For the record Derry goal was dissallowed because Clive Delaney was trying to exchange shirts with Seamus Conneely when the cross was coming in.
The peno was at first BALL TO HAND and secondly IT WAS OUTSIDE THE FU**ING BOX.Only one Derry player appealed for the peno and even that was half hearted.Kenny was laughing when it was given.I know because i was in the stand behind their dugout.
Derry are a good side and would have probably won anyway but KELLY was Derry's MOTM.For every Studs up tackle by the Derry centre midfielder he would turn a blind eye.For every piece of time wasting, the same. For every push by Clive Delaney, again the same blindness.
    RANT OVER!!!

Derry fans feel the refs have been against them recently, obviously not tonight

The penalty looked a bit dodgy alright. Thought it was outside the box. Having said that Derry were by far the better team and deserved the win. It wasnt the refs fault that Galway played poorly.

I'm not trying to stir, but I think Galway might struggle a bit now. They looked very poor against us. The same goes for Bray. Not sure if we can take advantage, hopefully we don't pick up too many injuries. I wouldn't write of Drogheda just yet, they are in with a chance, especially if they can bring in a couple of players during the transfer window.

    eamo1,

As GalwayRed has said, we were far superior in most areas of the pitch.

As for tackles, a few of the Galway players were lucky not to receive more than yellows. What is the story with Terryland, it is like beach with the amount of sand and exceedingly bobbly.

Terryland is by far the most used pitch in the league - two senior teams and at least one junior or juvenile match every week.

I think you will find Terryland to be one of the best surfaces in Ireland, and considering two league teams and loads of district league and junior games are played there it is a credit to Galway soccer

Well done to Derry - They deserved their win.

Garry Breen's red card in the League Cup coupled with Sean Kelly's injury are really costing us now imo.

I don't know how many players from Derry had the game stopped requiring attention - but it was a veritable epidemic - the decision to give Liam Kearney 30 seconds of action in the second half was curious to say the least. Best wishes to the injured Derry lad (Molloy? Martyn?) who was taken away by ambulance having only come on as a sub.

For the second game in a row the awarding rather than the concession of a penalty has turned the game decisively against us.

    But that's football.

    Poor.

We were poor.I did say Derry were probably going to win.Im just saying the all important second goal from the peno killed the game for us.A team always has a chance just a goal down but getting that peno was a huge favour for them.
Funny that the Derry players started going down like flies AFTER they went 1-0 up.
Im just rising ye lads,Derry were good,we were poor, simple as.

Was there a foul before the handball? I assumed it was the handball that he was booked for, that's what I was shouting about anyway.

Poor game, our passing was bad and we didn't hold onto the ball at all but we still should have got a draw out of it.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.

Derry went 1 up in the 1st half, and continued to attack for the rest of the game, Why would they time waist when they were playing Galway off the pitch. As for players going down, and you single out Kearney. Kearney was eventually taken of, and Molloy was carried off. Feigning injury my ass, the two of them were taken to hospital for x-rays. There it was seen that Kearney's ankle was broken, and Molloy's was even worse with severe ligament damage. Both are now out for two months.

As for the penalty, the player jumped to block the ball with his hands in the air above his head. His hands blocked the ball, penalty, end of story.
