Pure pedantry here, but it was actually us that signed him.

We then merely loaned him to you lot, whilst still paying his wages. Thanks Pat

Alan Moore- £100k contract, played three games.

We had some real shockers over the years including some loacal lads but the worst i have seen is Kevin Jullian. He was not even a footballer, i seen him being eaten alive in training sessions by Jason McCartney who could not get near the Monaghan team. As soon as the window opened Cook had him out the door, and went to other club, all very bizarre his first and last football club.

    Naw,

JP signed and all from Aarhus. I mind him scoring a penalty away to Pats, we ended up losing 4-1.

I remember us signing a fella Sheppard in the 00/01 season. Absolutely brock.

Tony Boyle's(Donegal GAA star) brother, James. I only remember how bad he was as a wayward shot from 20 yards in the Showgrounds managed to knock me over(thereby losing the bags of chips I was carrying).

This thread has the potential to be a classic.

Mc Cartney wasn't too bad for us, although after the injury against Dundalk, he hasn't done much in general. Ian Mc Clusky has to be our worst ever player, signed from Shels, haven't a clue where he is now.....

I never seen James Merdith play for us, appearently he signed a professional contract with Derby County in 2005 but joined us in 2007, heard he wasn't good enough for us. Doe's anyone who seen him play for us think he was a bad player or someone who just wouldn't have made it here ?

    Just to clear this up-
was it you or him was snogging his girlfriend?

He started very slowly for Harps as well but ended up being very good.

I remember us playing away to UCD and I was F-ing and blinding about spending so much on a striker who couldn't score.

It was only towards the end of the game that someone tapped me on the shoulder and pointed out that I was about 2 yards away from his father and a couple of brothers.

Far from being embarrassed I maintain that this constructive criticism was vital in his return to form and eventual success at Harps.

Yah with a big payoff. Clearly not cutout for management.

We also got a centre forward from Man Utd (well their reserves) - John McDermott in 1979. He played a few goals, couldn't hit a barn door from 10 feet and disappeared into obscurity.

You could give a mention to Billy Hamilton too. He was a great player and decent manager however he just pipped another former NI International to the post in 1986 - Martin O'Neill. We had some really good players then and O'Neill could well have won the league or at least a cup for us. I'm sure Martin often looks back thinking what he could have achieved if only he'd done a better interview with Pat Grace.

I could write a book on all the rubbish we've signed down through the years. Below are a few standouts:

Jesper Jorgensen, Mark Leech, Marco Rapetti, Chris Armstrong, Yeboah Mensah, Shaun Fagan, Stephen Gavin, Juan Rojas, Dimitri Brinias

Ha, I thought of that after I'd posted. I was waiting to see would someone spot it. No it wasn't me, unfortunately. She was a serious looker if I remember rightly. Couldn't possibly be as entertaining as being well beaten by Shels however.

Yeah he was fined wages for that and all. His worst moment in maroon came against Cobh last May, when he somehow managed to miss a gaping goal from 2 yards in the dying seconds

Thiam must get another mention. He was laughable. Utter rubbish. I know i am a Sligo fan but i seen this fella play about 6-7 times and he was behond bad. Didn't Drogs pay a fee for him as well? No wonder they went under.

Kevin Julian Signed for us not having played for anyone, then left us never to play again, took alot of money with him as well, the Rob MacDonald Era had alot of those ones and was very costly to us.

Remember he played against us for Galway Hibs(?). Thought he was the best player on the park, maybe a once off though.

    Ah jeez where to start?

Gary Beckett, Sean Cooney, Stephen Capper, Declan Divin (although he scored one the best goals I have seen in FP against Mons), Sean Roddy and many, many, many, many, many more.

In defence of Chris Armstrong and Yeboah Mensah they never got a chance. They both got injured right after signing for us. I'd blame The Spoofer and his knack of signing injury prone players, not the players themselves.
Yeboah looked like he was going to be a brilliant signing after that friendly he played against Sligo out in Corofin.

    I'd forgotten about Marco Rapetti.
Shaun Fagan was meant to be the next big thing. When we signed him all the talk was about a screamer he'd scored against Celtic for Motherwell. We soon saw why Motherwell let him go to Stenhousemuir and why they let him go to us!
