Definitely not much to be learned by Rovers in the game except to be more willing to shoot around the edge of the box. The penalty came from another attempt to walk the ball in when a shot might have sufficed.

Rovers could play the last 10 minutes with 10 men as Amond was injured and Baker spent the last 15 minutes signing autographs for almost everyone under 13 on the sideline. Pity Kildare's no 6..really felt sorry for him as he tried to be a single handed defence.

that we've gone and won two-in-a-row
and it's not gonna be three
and it's not gonna be four
it's more likely to be 5-1.

Hey just on the KCFC topic. Was at the game tonight with a few other fans, great to visit Tallaght and I must say the set-up was the best I have seen in Irish soccer. The shop was really good too. Rovers are bound to be a a top LOI club again now with these facilities at their disposal.

About the game, yeah, we suck. I mean, we haven't scored in 450 minutes or something like that, and I genuinely fear we may end up on -100 goals come the end of the season. The reason we are struggling so much is that the club was geared towards the A League and, when we were offered a place in the First Division, the transfer window had already all but shut and we had a team signed up that was targetted towards the A League. The idea was good: blood local lads in the A League, build up a real foundation at the club and hopefully, within a couple of seasons, get promoted with a squad of mostly local players.

When we ended up in the First Division, with no chance to sign more experienced players or even loan them, we had no choice but to try our hand with what we have. The average age of the team is 21 or 22 I believe, with a 17 year old (Matty Byrne) being one of our key players. Our budget is something like €500 p/w - so at least we are living within our means! I understand the club is looking to bring in some more experienced heads when the transfer window opens later in the season, but by then who knows how far behind we will be in the table.

The fans will stick at it and continue to support the club and team, home and away. If anybody knows it's not all about winning, County fans do! Hopefully the team will improve as the season goes on too.

Oh and Number 6 for us tonight was Baba Isaaka from Ghana, a Tallaght native these days I believe. He once played with FC Jokerit, and had short stints at Pats and Dundalk. He was class tonight, and it seems we may have found a great role for him as a centre-midfielder. He was one of the few players from last season who returned despite the possibility of barely even making petrol money whilst playing in a poor team, so fair play to him.

I think we should be grateful to Kildare for their willingness to keep the league numbers up to strength in the circumstances rather than critical of them for being a poor side.

People can give out about them, but they're a lot less damaging to the image of the league than the likes of Cork and Drogheda have been.

Sounds like Baba Isaaka. Stood out when I was down at the 6-1 Dundalk win at the end of last season.

Edit - I see Philly beat me to it.

The FAI need to look at avoiding a Kildare County situation in future years. Dallying over licence awards, and an A Championship which is a world apart from the division above it mean there's a serious difference between being in either division (the extra three or four weeks at the start being one), and it isn't good enough to have a position where Kildare can be thrust last-minute into a league of 33 games, having planned (and actually planned, it seems, as per Philly's post) on being in a poorer league with just 14 games. If clubs are going to be willy nilly demoted into the A League or bumped out of, then the A League needs to be a serious division.

Baba Isaaka, I was going to mention him but didnt know his name. He looks a very good young player. He was by far the best player in the Kildare team when we played them earlier in the season.

He's not that young. He was with pats about 8 years ago (never played). Went to Dundalk for a while then

Yeah, Kildare won 2-1 at Limerick at the end of last season, and he was outstanding in defence.

That was out last win (possibly ever the way things are going). We're playing you in Limerick again Friday - so beware!
