Hey just on the KCFC topic. Was at the game tonight with a few other fans, great to visit Tallaght and I must say the set-up was the best I have seen in Irish soccer. The shop was really good too. Rovers are bound to be a a top LOI club again now with these facilities at their disposal.
About the game, yeah, we suck. I mean, we haven't scored in 450 minutes or something like that, and I genuinely fear we may end up on -100 goals come the end of the season. The reason we are struggling so much is that the club was geared towards the A League and, when we were offered a place in the First Division, the transfer window had already all but shut and we had a team signed up that was targetted towards the A League. The idea was good: blood local lads in the A League, build up a real foundation at the club and hopefully, within a couple of seasons, get promoted with a squad of mostly local players.
When we ended up in the First Division, with no chance to sign more experienced players or even loan them, we had no choice but to try our hand with what we have. The average age of the team is 21 or 22 I believe, with a 17 year old (Matty Byrne) being one of our key players. Our budget is something like €500 p/w - so at least we are living within our means! I understand the club is looking to bring in some more experienced heads when the transfer window opens later in the season, but by then who knows how far behind we will be in the table.
The fans will stick at it and continue to support the club and team, home and away. If anybody knows it's not all about winning, County fans do! Hopefully the team will improve as the season goes on too.
Oh and Number 6 for us tonight was Baba Isaaka from Ghana, a Tallaght native these days I believe. He once played with FC Jokerit, and had short stints at Pats and Dundalk. He was class tonight, and it seems we may have found a great role for him as a centre-midfielder. He was one of the few players from last season who returned despite the possibility of barely even making petrol money whilst playing in a poor team, so fair play to him.
