Good to see the A league clubs involved.

Having a seperate sponsor may help with giving it its own brand too

I'm sure there will be a little bit of pre-match commentary to that one

Why is there a Kerry League team instead of the Dynamos?

Salthill beat Mervue tonight on penalties so we'll be facing them in the next round of the League Cup

Harps bet Kildrum 2-1 tonight too. They'll be away to Castlebar next.

Salthill advance in EA Sports Cup on penalties
Salthill Devon 2-2 Mervue Utd AET
    Maranek Gaffney
    Browne O'Dowd

    Salthill win 4-3 on penalties

Tonight saw the first glimpses of action in the newly named EA Sports Cup(formerly the League Cup) when Mervue United travelled to Drom to take on Salthill Devon in the preliminary round of the competition.

The clubs met twice last year in the A Championship, with both recording away wins. That trend was bucked tonight as Salthill caused an upset, fighting back from behind to force extra-time and eventually win out 4-3 in a sudden-death penalty shootout.

Salthill took an early lead through Marcin Maranek but were pegged back by a goal from Rory Gaffney. David O'Dowd then gave the First Division side the lead, but a late goal from Devon's Shane Browne forced an extra half hour to be played.

Browne proved to be the hero once more as his sudden death penalty sent the Seasiders through to meet Galway United in the first round proper in two weeks time.

Anyone know if the dates are firmed up for these games? Wondering if the Tullamore - UCD game is on the Monday or Tuesday?

Just give Derry their consolation prize and have done with it.

The rest of us have more important trophies to concentrate on.

Even if it does sound like an online league for gamers...
