It's a sign that you're getting old.
Footballer Gerry Gow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerry_Gow once of Bristol City, Man City and others.
Munster coach Anthony Foley. Died overnight in his Paris hotel. RIP
Terrible news on Foley. Only 42 years old.
Same age as me. Brings a shiver alright.
Shocking news, unconfirmed reports say it was a heart attack and he died in his sleep. I was in Limerick this weekend, and went to Thomond Park before I left to pay my respects. Tied a flag to the gates, and signed the book of condolences
The King of Siam (well, Thailand), Bhumibol Adulyadej, the longest-serving monarch in the world having been crowned in 1950.
Elizabeth II is now longest-serving monarch.
Left of field one this, but US short story writer Thom Jones, who created wondefully drawn characters living neon-lit lives, dependent on prescription meds and always nearly making it. Genuinely one of the true greats of the short story.

Apparently there is to a a minute's silence at Hillsborough this Saturday as a mark of respect as the owners are from Thailand. I wonder how that one will go down with the visiting QPR supporters. If the Owls's supporters know what side their bread is buttered on there shouldn't be a murmur from them.

Always find it fascinating in this country how you are imbued with affection for certain racehorses.
Can't believe it's 10 years since he last raced.

I'm sure he'll be spinning, right round right round, in his grave.
Bobby Vee, '60s pop singer. Recorded Rubber Ball, but, sadly won't come bouncing back to you from this.
Weirdly, that song was in my head this morning.
Oh dear God. Superb.
Carlos Alberto
I only saw a programme the other day on either Sky or BT about his goal in the 1970 final.

Legendary darts commentator Dave Lanning aged 78. Commentated on the first ever televised 9 dart finish by John Lowe.
Really sad to hear about this, the commentary for Darts now is beyond terrible compared to likes of Dave and Sid, who made a dreadful match seem exciting. All they talk about nowadays is averages and double percentage etc., they don't put in the excitement and wit like them two did.

So farewell then, America, we hardly knew ye.

He always drove me spare but I appreciated him no end. 2016 can suck a dick.
This year is proving a right ba$tard
I preferred the Jeff Buckley version of Hallelujah.
RIP.
Paul McCartney and Bob Dylan for 2017
You heard it here first.
Never liked Cohen's singing, but - my God! - he wrote some powerful songs. Maybe a more worthy Nobel Laureate than Dylan...?
I was disgusted that Dylan got that now. Seemed a sop. Weird.
I'd defo be more pro-Cohen than Dylan despite not being able to enjoy either musically.
I saw Dylan a few years ago in the Point. Absolute shoite. Such a crock that he still tours with his voice as it is.
That being said 10 years ago he played Kilkenny and was supported by the Violent Femmes and the Flaming Lips (left after the Lips who were astounding).
