Estelle Getty, from the US sitcom the Golden Girls:

Aw ... I am truly sorry to hear that. She was younger that two of the other 'Golden Girls' -including the one playing her daughter!
Much of her characters attributes were originally intended for a gay housekeeper -but he didn't go down well in the pilot screenings  so they scrapped him and gave the brassy-suffer-no-bull****ters characteristics to her instead.
Cancer Ward and Ivan Denisovich are two great books, both personal favourites.
I had to laugh at CNN though. They had a piece on him and called him "the famous Russian actor".
Bernie Mac has died at 50 :(
He was the voice of Chef in South Park.
Yeah that got an "awww" out of me this morning. RIP Chef.

Hard to believe, I thought he was getting better. Leaves behind a huge legacy.

RIP
Shame he had to hear that tribute song before he passed on
RIP, what a legend.
I hope he wasn't watching the Dubs at the time but RIP to Dublin gentelman, legend and musician Ronnie Drew.
I heard a good line from Ronnie Drew and one that I'd like to use on mnay of you!
Ronnie was having a solitary pint (i.e. alone as opposed to having one pint!). A punter walked up to him and said "tell us Ronnie, why do you drink like you do?"
Ronnie replied "I drink to mind my own business, can I get you a pint?" !!
Ronnie Drew :(....................RIP.
Shame they wrote such a crap song to honour him!
I tell you what is spooky (for me anyway!)
As I said before, last week listened to Issac Hayes who i rarely listen to. Next day, the legend is dad
Well today same bloody thing. Listened to that Ronnie Drew cd that the Irish Indo gave away a few months ago, listened to two of the songs on it. Havent listened to R Drew in months. next thing the legend is dead. Jesus:eek:
Rip, Ronnie Drew
(now if i could only get my hands on a few westlife cds:mad:)
R.I.P. Mr. Drew. A true gentleman if ever there was one. Sad day indeed.
Complete legend! An Irish great, R.I.P.
Sad news, great talent.
Sad to hear. One of the great Irish voices. A part of Irish heritage, everyone knew who he was. R.I.P Ronnie, you'll be sadly missed.
He used to play at the harbour bar in Bray before he made it to the big time.
Sean Kilfeather. Irish Times sports writer, good one too. Always used to look forward to The Fifth Column.
I think that was Brendan Behan who said that but not a bad put down.
I often used to see Ronnie in the last few years of his life in a pub in Greystones, many will know it, The Burnaby. He would come in a have a glass of red wine and sit quietly chating to friends. A sad loss coming so quickly after the death of his wife, as so often happens.
Good luck to you Ronnie. I'll have one for you.

Dan LaFontaine has died - the world will never be the same again. Until one man who had the voice stepped forward...
Richard Wright has died aged 65 after a short battle with cancer. One of those moments where I feel a little bit of me or my life has died as well. :(
Job well done Richard. Bravo.
He's gone to the dark side of the moon:

He wrote Great Gig In The Sky. Very apt. They played it on Today fm this morning just before 7am. Usually I'm stuck with the melody of some sh!te song in me head all day. I've been huming Gret Gig all morning (obviously not quite as high as the original version!).
Very nicely put Lionel. It's not often that someone's passing like that affects you in that way.
Actor, Eric Longworth who played the town clerk in Dad's Army. Not too many of the actors left at this stage.

So farewell then the Celtic Tiger. Well known to the rich people of Ireland, seldom seen by plenty of us. You graced us with your presence, don't go changing.
R.I.P. mid 1990's - 2008
Ach it was only a cub.
