I was back on the sideline for this one but still ruled out of action due to injury....

The true value of a settled defence really shone through in this very tight game as few chances were created by either side and we came away with three points. Too often this season we have been on top in games and given away sloppy goals but the defence has been excellent recently and they won out here when Dundrum were good value for at least a draw on the balance of play.

This was a good quality, tough game, switched from an unplayable Bushy Park to Siemens excellent facility on the Malahide Road. Siemens made all of the running in the early stages of the game with their five-man midfield dominating possession and using their wide men well, but Terenure defended strongly and gave up few clear chances.

Our bad run in cup competitions continued with defeat against Glasnaoin. This game came just two weeks after our three all league draw with the same opposition and it was another tight affair. A physically bigger Glasnaoin team always looked dangerous from set plays and were mostly dominant from kick outs and it was this that gave them the edge overall.

Tomorrow night sees the culmination of the 2010 Airtricity First Division and all being well it will end with a Derry player picking up the trophy. It appears a far cry from last Friday night in the Social Club, never mind the first game of the season.
There was a very sombre mood last week, as many fans believed that City had blown their cushion and would head to Monaghan with at best, a one point margin. The feeling was “here we go again” as the spectre of Athlone and Cork loomed large in the memory. In a certain way the players were somewhat sheltered from that, as many of them are too young to remember the emotion trauma of those occasions. If you are a fan however, you’ll never forget those games.

Athlone Town u20’s have qualified for the All-Ireland 5 a-side Futsal Tournament after finishing top of their group in the Connacht qualifying stage at the National University of Ireland, Galway last Sunday afternoon. In a group of 3, up first for Athlone Town was Galway United, who had suffered a heavy defeat in their opening game with Salthill Devon. Athlone came out on top with a comprehensive 9-3 victory despite playing a part of the match with just 4 players after their ‘keeper was sent off for two bookable offences. Kevin Horan bagged a hat-trick; Stephen Relihan got himself a brace while Broughall, Stack, Gilsenan and Goggins also added their names to the score sheet.
