    Grant City 2 – 5 Terenure 3rds

The short trip to Marlay Park proved a fruitful one for Terenure 3rds as they turned in an excellent performance to see off Grant City. A heavy rain shower before kick off made the surface quick, ideal for a passing game, and it seemed to suit Terenure who kept possession well in the early stages and limited Grant City’s attacking opportunities.

Brian Donlon opened the scoring for Terenure ...

    Carton Avenue 0 - 0 Terenure 3rds

On the familiar territory of last seasons home pitch in Bushy Park Terenure 3rds fought hard to keep a clean sheet and take a point from Carton Avenue. Terenure faced a bit of a crisis going into the game with a number of players unavailable through injury and other commitments and started a 4-5-1 formation with winger Bernard Geraghty filling in up front.

The first half produced few clear ...

    Terenure 3rds 4 - 4 Dollymount 2nds

On a warm, muggy, day in Bushy Park Terenure 3rds were left feeling like Dollymount had robbed a point from this season opening encounter, but really only had themselves to blame. Terenure started much the stronger and were 2 goals to the good inside the first 30 minutes, Kevin Murphy starting the season in flying fashion as he got in behind a hesitant Dollymount defence on both occasions and finished ...

  6. Show me the way to go home

There’s no feeling like going home. Tomorrow night sees the return of international football to Lansdowne 2.0 as Ireland take on Argentina, sadly no longer led by Maradona. It may only be a friendly but I can’t wait to get back. Last week’s game was nothing more than a fundraising charade and whilst we will only see real intensity come the qualifiers, it will be a nice warm up game.

Croker was grand, but watching football on a gaelic pitch doesn’t work. It is like seeing a mini ...

  9. Are you Tony Sheridan?

’m a big fan of podcasts, none more so that those produced by RTÉ, so I was intrigued when I saw a podcast called “Are you Tony Sheridan?” appear on the list of Documentary on One list.

As a League of Ireland fan, I immediately though of the mercurial Shelbourne legend of the mid nineties but unfortunately it turned about that the programmes was dedicated to another interesting Tony Sheridan, whom the Beatles were a backing band. You can find out about “the other Tony Sheridan” and ...

  10. 88th minute winner in Tolka? Just say yes!

The slogan for the winning City of Culture bid had been "Just Say Yes!". Derry had been announced as the winning city on Thursday night and there was general euphoria home and abroad.

Friday dawned and it was the first trip of the season and a visit to a familiar haunting ground, Tolka Park. Working in Dublin now, this is particular a home game for me now! I spent the early morning in the dentist's chair, but unfortunately not in a Paul Gascoigne side, being filled full ...
